You are looking at a Remington Model 541-S Custom Sporter rifle, which was manufactured in Oct.1973 (barrel code EX). This rifle accepts .22 S, L or LR cartridges and has a 24" barrel with a 5-shot removable magazine. The bore is in excellent condition with crisp rifling and no pitting. The Model 541-S features a checkered walnut stock with a rosewood forend tip, pistol grip cap and buttplate.
When I got this rifle it did not have a front or rear sight. Ive since installed a front and rear sight from an older model Remington 700ADL. Ive also added Leupold weaver-style steel scope bases to the rifle (see photos).
The gun has its original blue, which is at 98% or better. There are a few very small spots of pitting in the top of the barrel, just behind the forend tip (see photos). Theres also a very small spot of pitting in the right-side of the barrel, above the forend tip and in the left-side of the barrel, below the front sight and (see photos). The spot in the left-side of the barrel, below the front sight is so small that I couldnt even get it to show-up in any of the photos I took. Other than these very minor spots the metal on this Model 541-S is in excellent condition (see photos).
As mentioned the rifle has a checkered walnut stock with its original finish. There are a few small spots of what looks like very light water drops on the right-side of the stock, forward of the buttplate. Besides these few very minor spots, the stock shows a very nice wood grain pattern with crisp checkering and an excellent finish with no chips or cracks (see photos). The rosewood forend tip, grip cap and buttplate are also in excellent condition and really set the stock off nice! L.O.P. is 13-1/4".
Ive not fired this rifle since Ive owned it, Im assuming that the previous owner did fire the rifle, but it shows very little use from firing. Overall this rifle is in excellent condition mechanically and in appearance. Serial #1160829.
This classic Remington would make an excellent addition to your collection. It could be passed down as a gift for a special person or brought out to the range for those special occasions.
