Description

Seller's Description:
The information gathered here is taken from the Hamilton web site and the 1967 book Boys Single Shot Rifles by James G. Grant. The Model 27 was the most popular of all Hamilton rifles. It is called a tip up model. To load the small bolt, is turned upwards, and the barrel will then tip-up. Early model barrels and this one I believe is the later model although it looks to have brass lined encased by stamp steel tubing. The meta has an aged pitted patina while the bore seems to be in better condition. The frame is made of stamp steel and then blued. The stock is a flat board type with slightly rounded edges. Birch used and stained to a walnut finish. Grant states there was no butt plate however this one has a metal plate held on by two screws. It could possible have been added but it looks like factory to me. The rear sight is an almost arrow design held in place by a screw. The front sight is a blade. The barrel is so short as to make the rear sight unusable at least with my eyes. Mechanically it is fine has a tight latch. there seems to be three layers to the barrel a brass inner sleeve surrounded by steel and then a thinner layer of metal with the seam visual at the bottom or 6 O’clock position disappearing into the fore-arm. The book says it is a take-down rifle with the knurled thumb screw removable from the left side. However I believe said screw was replaced with a normal straight slot screw and form fitting nut PATENT INFORMATION : There are two different patent dates; The October 30, 1900 patent date is the Method of Rifling Gun Barrels which appears on all Hamilton rifles except the Model 7&11. Aug.13 1907 is the Model 27 Rifle Patent date. RIFLE MARKINGS : 1. Early Models (1906): The HAMILTON RIFLE No 27.22cal. Patented Oct.30 1900, Other Pending, Mfd. by the Hamilton Rifle Co. Plymouth, Mich. U.S.A. 2. Later Models: The HAMILTON RIFLE No.27.22cal. Patented Oct.30 1900,-Aug.13, 1907 Mfd. by C.J Hamilton and Son. Plymouth, Mich.U.S.A. SPECIFICATIONS: Action type: Tip-up barrel Weight: 2 1/2 lbs. Caliber: .22 rim fire Length: 30 inches Barrel length: 15 inches Mfd. Dates: 1906-1930 App. Mfd.: 500,000
