Dutch Beaumont-Vitali Model 1871-88 rifle 11.mmx52R (43 Beaumont) caliber
You are bidding on a Dutch Beaumont-Vitali Model 1871/88 rifle 11.mmx52R caliber (aka 43 Beaumont). This rifle was made in the Petrus Stevens factory in Maastricht, Netherlands in 1877 and received the Vitali improvements probably in 1890. This rifle is in very good condition overall. The white metal is not rusted or corroded. The action is smooth and tight. The stock has lots of bruises, no cracks that we could see and it has one gouge on the underside of the fore stock (See photos). The cleaning rod is not original. The bore is shinny with good rifling but there are some rusted/corroded spots. All markings are consistent with the Beaumont-Vitali and serial numbers are matching.
The original Beaumont cartridge was 11.35x50mm with a rimmed case, similar to a 50/90 Sharps. It used a 345 grain bullet and with black powder. To get the maximum energy from the rifle a 32.5 inch barrel was used. When the rifles were updated in 1888/1890 the cartridge dimensions were changed the to 11.2x52mm, still using a rimmed case, but with smokeless powder.

BEFORE YOU ASK WHAT THE RESERVE IS, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING
We do not disclose the Reserve on our “RESERVE AUCTIONS” because doing so defeats the purpose of the auction. Disclosing makes it a “Sale”, not an auction, much like a classified listing. Most of the firearms we offer at auction are on consignment with us from one of our clients. Our commitment to our clients is to obtain the highest fair market price possible for their firearms. Thus, we prefer the Reserve Auction and the “HAGGLE” feature offered by Auction Arms. About 50% of our sales are completed via the Haggle. In a Reserve auction if the high bidder does not reach the reserve buy to end the auction the high bidder or the seller may institute what Auction Arms calls a Haggle a one-on-one exchange between buyer and seller to try and come to a mutual agreement on a price. If you are not familiar with the Haggle process, click on Auction Arms “Help & Info” for complete details. For those items that are not on consignment we usually offer a convenient “Buy-It-Now” price.
