Description

Seller's Description:
This 1902 is mechanically very nice down too the extractor, pull pin cock and firing pin. The barrel has the brown patina common to a 100 + year old firearm. The rifleing lands and grooves are apparent in the barrels bore. The bore does show wear mostly some pitting in the grooves. The wooden stock has the wear of a well used Boys Rifle of the period However it is a very nice collectable Boys Rifle of the early 20th century. The following has been taken from James Grants 1967 “Boys Single Shot Rifles”. If you are a collector of Boys rifles this is a must have. Model 1902 Winchester Rifle This model for one reason and another survived longer than any other Winchester boys’ rifle. It was also the most popular model of this series if the large number found even today is any standard. It was the same light rifle as the Model 1900 and used the identical bolt action of that and the previous model, the 1899. The barrel was also 18 inches long on this model and is generally just slightly heavier than that used on the Model 1900. The only other difference between this and the preceding models is that the trigger guard has an extra scroll on the tail end contrasted to the simple bow guard of the Model 1900. Name, Model: Winchester, Model 1902 Marked on top of barrel: Manufactured by The Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn. U.S.A. Patented August 20, 1899. Model 02 .22 Short, Long, or Extra Long. Winchester TRADE Mark Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. & Fgn. It also has the Winchester Proof Mark on top at breech. No other markings. Action type: Turn bolt action, manually cocked striker Caliber: .22 Short, Long, Extra Long rim fire Barrel length: 18 inches Overall length: 34 inches Sights: Blade front and flat top fixed rear barrel sight Frame: Blued barrel and bolt race Factory original: Yes Takedown: Yes, same system as Models 1900 & 1899 Remarks: The rifle has the same action as the two previous models, a bolt race milled into the breech of barrel. This model does have a walnut finished hard wood stock with a hard rubber butt plate. This butt plate had molded into it, “Winchester Trade Mark,” in a circular design, surrounded by a checkered background. The barrel of this piece is just slightly larger in diameter than that used on the previous model. Weight – about 3 pounds.
