In the early 1930s, the Italian army was impressed by the Walther PP pistol, Beretta did not want to lose a big Italian military contract and designed the compact M1934 for the Italian army which accepted it in 1937. The M1935 is simply an M1934 modified to fire .32ACP ammunition. Specifications The M1934 is a single-action blowback pistol self loading system with external hammer; partially exposed barrel; slide secured when open by Follower on breechblock; The that fires the .32 ACP ammunition (7.65 mm. Browning). Introduced in 1935. Serial numbers 1935-59, 411000-923048. However as a collector of Berettas you may have a more exact date with the serial # 929448. This one is 1940-XVII It is fitted with a manual safety and when the last shot has been fired the slide is retained open as is a 1911 pistol. The magazine capacity is 7 rounds, detachable box secured by grooved pivoting aperture on butt. Barrel length 3.46 inches . Rifling 6 grooves right hand twist one turn in 9.84 inches. Overall length 5.74 inches weight is 1.368 lb. Magazine weight .10 . Sights open V notched rear dovetailed on slide front blade integral on slide. Safety- manual lever affecting hammer.- notch on hammer. Grips are a steel backed composition usually with an unworn PB monogram As this pistol was built for the Italian army, all parts were interchangeable, which simplified maintenance and manufacturing: a first at the time. Intended market It was purpose built and designed for the Italian armed forces, however it was also sold to the civilian market and issued to the German forces in 1944 and 1945. Design advantages Fitted with the Beretta style open slide, the M1934 has a very reliable feeding and extraction cycle. It was made with few parts and is very simple to maintain. The M1934 is a very robust construction with long service life if properly maintained.
