Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 111214JM07

Make: Smith & Wesson

Model: 1 1/2, Top Break

Serial Number: 3747

Year of Manufacture: 1878 – 1892 and a lot closer to 1878 than to 1892.

Caliber: .32 S&W Short

Action Type: Top Break Single Action Revolver

Markings: The serial number “3747” is found on the butt. The rear of the cylinder is marked “3747”, as is the underside of the top strap release. The rib of the barrel is marked “Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. Pat’d Jan 17 & 24. 65 / July 11 65. Aug. 24. 69. Feb. 20. 1877. Reissue July 25. 1871” and “Pat’d Apr. 20. 75 / Dec. 16. 1877”.

Barrel Length: 3 ½”

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a pinned front blade sight and a notch in the release for the rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered hard rubber. There are no losses to the panels and only slight marking. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is a bit gray and the rifling is visible the entire length. There is light pitting in the grooves, but the bore remains shootable.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a couple of dings to the cylinder, not affecting the chambers. There is scattered tarnish and ageing to the nickel throughout, though primarily on the barrel. The underside of the barrel shows some very light attempted cleaning of the tarnish. The screw heads are very good and only slightly worn. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly though we have not fired this pistol. The lockup is very tight and there is no ‘wobble’.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Models 1, 1 ½ and 2 are some of the most collected and appreciated firearms produced from the period. They made a convenient sized .32 Caliber Top Break, Cartridge revolver that saw production reach almost 100,000. Though there were a lot of these guns produced, few remain in a condition even approaching this one. The gun is definitely original and shows only natural age wear. Add this to the fact that it is a 4-digit serial number, and you have that missing hole in your collecting right here.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This gun can be sold In California to anyone over the age of 18 and is considered an antique.
