Description

Seller's Description:
M1903 Springfield. Rock Island Arsenal, 1919. Serial number 401386 (high number). This receiver is one of the 3996 numbered but not assembled receivers sent to Springfield Armory from Rock Island in 1926. [NOTE: the highest number Rock Island receiver is 430742 struck on July 31, 1919]. These were then assembled at Springfield over the next few years (observed barrel dates run from 1926 through 1931), with all components being of new Springfield manufacture. Receiver appears to have been drilled for a receiver rear sight, with the holes having been subsequently filled in. The barrel is marked "SA" and "7-27'. Overall 80% finish (dark blue/black phosphate "parkerizing") correct for the 1918 and later production 1903's. Bore is excellent - very sharp and bright and easily passes the "bullet" test for muzzle erosion. Stock is finger groove with two reinforcing lugs. Clear inspectors marks (DAL - David A. Lyle, inspector at Springfield 1916-1942) and the "P" firing proof are very clearly visible. Handguard has pre-1941 arc-type windage knob cut - not the elliptical cut of the WWII handguards. All wood is VG+ with some dings from service but no cracks or chips. Serrated trigger and finely checkered buttplate. Bolt is unmarked. All other parts appear to be correct with no WWII replacements. NOTICE: NOT IMPORT MARKED. C&R ELIGIBLE. ALL PICTURES IN THIS AD ARE OF THE ACTUAL PIECE BEING OFFERED FOR SALE. NO ADDITIONAL PICTURES – NO EXCEPTIONS!!! EXCEPT AS NOTED IN THE DESCRIPTION - ALL WEAPONS ARE COMPLETE WITH NO MISSING PARTS OR OTHER VISIBLE MECHANICAL DEFECTS. I DO NOT SELL SHOOTERS!! ALL PIECES ARE SOLD “AS IS” AS COLLECTORS ITEMS ONLY.
