For the advanced collector, a very hard to find variation of the Colt 1911-A1...a WW2 Canadian Lend Lease pistol! It bears the "Broad Arrow enclosed in a C" Canadian military property marking on the left side of both frame and slide. It is believed that only 1515 pistols were transfered to Canada during WWII. These Canadian Lend Lease pistols are found within the 930,000 to 940,000 serial range. Following the war, most of those guns were transfered to England where they were proofed again and received the Birmingham markings seen on the right side and barrel. Eventually a handful of these guns found their way back to the United States. From my research only 11 to 15 are known of in the U.S. A must have for the military 45 collector. To make things even more interesting, the slide is commercially rollmarked on the right side, something occasionally encountered within this same serial range. The slide is properly serial numbered beneath the firing pin retainer and matches the receiver. It also has the schwartz safety cutout. This pistol was fitted with a leftover commercial slide that was properly numbered to a standard military receiver and parkerized. Due to a shortage of pistols for the military the commercial production of Government Model pistols was suspended in 1942 and all slides, barrels, magazines and completed pistols were transferred to the military contract. The mirror image of the number is visible on the rear of the firing pin retainer. The parkerized finish rates about 93% with some minor edge wear and handling marks but no rust or pitting. The barrel is properly marked "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side of the chamber. The number 7 underneath. The grips are also correct for a 1943 vintage Colt pistol. There are NO import markings. The frame and slide bearing surfaces appear to have been polished and there is a vintage "Pachmayr" stamping on the underside of the slide. The mechanics are in perfect working order and the bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling. This is a US Army, GHD inspected Colt 1911-A1 WW2 vintage 45 automatic and is marked United States Property. Has the ordnance department crossed cannons stamp. This pistol was examined by Mr. Charles W. Clawson author of "Collectors Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols". Date of Birmingham proof is 1959. ASK questions before bidding.
