Seller's Description: For the collector of “inventor’s” guns and prototypes and/or for the vintage Amercian shotgun collector. This is a “firearm curiosa” which should surely interest both parties. This unusual fowler comes from prestigious Eastern arms collection and is attributed to having been made by Henry McKenny and Frederick Goth of Biddeford, Maine under U.S. Patent #22969 dated February 15, 1859. We have include copies of patent drawings and abstracts but should potential buyer wish to read and view in entirety online go to http://www.google.com/patents/US22969. This two shot “superposed” mule ear shotgun is presently the ONLY SPECIMEN KNOWN MADE UNDER THIS PATENT other than the patent model which is now
in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.. This longarm measures 46-3/4” overall and has a barrel length of 31” It is 12 gauge and weighs approximately 7-3/4 pounds. It has a single shotgun barrel with metal under rib. Walnut buttstock with metal forestock. Furniture is of brass. The locks are TWO “mule ear” types one on each side with right hammer being in front placement-brass cups around nipples. Single trigger. There is a very fine silver hunting dog plate inset into underside of rear buttstock and the shotgun has a wooden ramrod. The condition of the stock is excellent as well as the metal. There is one brass nipple cup which is battered and two small screws missing from the front end of the trigger plate. One ramrod ferrule is missing. The ramrod is appropriate but probably not original. A very fine and unusual antique American fowler. KM286-7 QYIH $1450 Thanks for looking and please e-mail us with any questions PRIOR to bidding.
