8mm NAZI SS AMMO - TOTENKOPF CAMP GUARD - SHELL NUMBER 7
When the SS leadership realized that the war was lost they did what they could to cover up their participation in the concentration and DEATH CAMPS. They forgot to police up the fired cartridges from their special ammunition contract which carried their unique insignia. These were made for special SS units ( Totenkopf,etc) use and was not used by SS military units which operated in conjunction with the German army. The SS leadership learned early on that the German military ( Wehrmacht) would not be willing and entusiastic supporters of their buildup as a fully equipted army for the nazi party. As a consequence SS leadership looked to their own resources to arm their troops.The military leadership did not want another armed force in Germany and resisited it. The SA was destroyed due in part to this fact and the SS was thwarted at every possible turn in their attempt to arm. It took considerable intervention by Hitler ,after he gained full control of the government ,to effect participation of Waffen SS units with the regular armed forces. After several years of contention with the army in attempts to obtain weapons and ammunition the SS contracted to purchase ammunition directly for its own use. In addition they established weapons factories in or near the camps to use the free slave labor. They also siezed weapons factories in occupied countries. The owner of the DWM factory was an insider with Himmler and was given the contract.(Gunther Quandt - The marriage of Gunther Quandt's ex-wife Magda to Joseph Goebbels initially linked the Quandt family to the Nazis, but Guenther Quandt and his sons all played significant independent roles in the Third Reich. Each eventually became a member of the Nazi party, and, more importantly, the Quandt firms of AFA and DWM (as well as the heavily Quandt-invested Daimler-Benz) utilized slave labor from the concentration camps of Hannover-Stcken, Mauthausen, and Sachsenhausen. In the immediate post-war period, the Quandts were subject to close scrutiny and heavy fines as a result of denazification.In March 1933 Quandt contributed 25,000 marks to the party as "insurance," actually joined the party later that year, and eventually became implicated in the crimes of the Nazi regime via the Quandts' prominent role in the armaments industry. One of the most infatuated of Hitler's admirers was the beautifull and ambitious Johanna Maria Magdelene (Quandt) Goebbels, married from 1921 to 1929 to Gunther Quandt, chairman of the board of the potash firm Wintershall and owner of Accumulatoren-Fabrik AG (AFA), Bayerish Motor Werken (BMW) and since 1928 of large-scale munitions manufacturer Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM). Quandt was one of the first NSDAP financiers as soon as 1930, along with Dr. Kurt Schmitt, General Director of Allianz und Stuttgarter Verein Versicherungs AG insurance firm and August von Finck, chairman of the supervisory board of the same company. Madga divorced Gunther Quandt in 1930 with a monthly alimony of 4,000 marks to marry in December 1931 the diminutive and club-footed Paul Josef Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Director.)***** Existing samples of marked ammunition indicate that the SS ammunition was made for 2 years. Headstamps from 1938 and 1939 are known with 3 types of lettering. ***** These cartridge cases were recovered from a trash pit on the original grounds of the the Auschwitz concentration camp. The current museum camp is much smaller than the orignal camp WHICH INCLUDED NOT ONLY THE MAIN CAMP AND DEATH CAMP AT BIRKENAU BUT ALSO SCORES OF SUB-CAMPS WHICH PROVIDED SLAVE LABOR TO GERMAN INDUSTRY THROUGH PAYMENT TO THE SS. ************************************************************************* This auction is for cartridge marked " 7 " only. It is the FIRST on the right in the photo. This cartridge was made by the giant armament firm DWM in 1938. PROUDLY MARKED BY DWM FOR THE DEATHS HEAD UNIT OF THE SS. ************************************************************************** ***** The auction includes 5 - 5x7 photos of the Auschwitz camp including the 1) main gate with the motto and 2) 2 aircraft recon photos of the camp , 2) the " GATE OF HELL " railwroad entrance to the BIRKENAU death camp and 4) the SS Auschwitz detachment doing their required target practice. This last photo comes from the personal album of camp adjutant to the camp commandant , Obersturmfurher Karl Hoecher, which includes the only known photos of SS camp units firing their weapons.
