This model is the short barrel model (19.7 inches) used by mounted troops. I found the following info at the website mentioned below: (Originally this rifle was designed and manufactured in large quantities by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr, 1897-1918)Caliber: 8x50mm rimmed. Muzzle velocity 580 m/sec [1900 fps] with M1893 ball cartridge. Action: Straight-pull bolt action, with two lugs on a detachable bolt head engaging the receiver. Integral clip-loaded box magazine, 5 rounds. 1003mm [39.5"] overall, 3.09kg [6.8 lbs]. 500mm [19.7"] barrel, 4-groove rifling, RH, concentric. It includes one clip. This rifle appears to not have been modified to use the 8 X 56R ammo, but is still chambered for the original 8 X 50 cartridge. Not too many of those are available. Could be a great collector piece. I found the following information on the 8 X 50 Ammo at the website (http://www.hungariae.com/Mann95.htm) bottom of page. Ammunition: Boxer primed cases for the 8x50R are available from Huntington and Old Western Scrounger. The 8x50R uses a .323-.324 dia bullet, 245gr FMJ RN (Nickel jacket). The 7.62x54r cases can be formed into 8X50R. The WN-20 designation on the barrel means: Post WW1 Austrian acceptance, on barrel shanks - No Eagle. Used 1919-1932. The only other markings on this gun that are not visible in the pictures is the stock is stamped "18" and the butt plate is stamped "28P" 7023. This rifle is being sold as is. Everything appears to work normally and the barrel is in pretty nice condition. Very sharp rifling is visible and it is very clean. The barrel and receiver serial numbers are matching, which usually means it is not an arsenal refurb, but an original production model. The rifle is missing one barrel band. It is the band that goes directly in front of the sights.

IN WW I, they did get up into the R, S,T and U blocks, but the W,X,Y,and Z suffixes were only used in late 1918 thru to 1921, on assemblies made to fill out Police and Reparations orders ( to Italy and Czechoslovakia); I have seen a couple of "W" suffixed 1917 acceptances, but none of the X,Y & Z until 1918-1921. I have several Czech accepted "Wn 20" and "Wn21" Stutzens. THIS ONE IS A "WN-20" and an X suffix. Please respond to Invoice within 72 hours of receiving it.
