PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF DESCRIPTION TO VIEW ALLPHOTOS NO RESERVE!! Here's an interesting Springfield Trapdoor that has some unique markings which give insight into its history. This is a Model 1888 "Ramrod Bayonet" Trapdoor...so named for the dual purpose ramrod which could also double as a spike bayonet, sliding part of the way out of its channel and locking in place. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge and has a 32-5/8" barrel with Buffington adjustable rear ladder sight. The trigger guard is of the correct one-piece type and the trigger face is properly "grooved/corrugated". The Model 1884 marked breechblock is also correct, a left-over from previous production. This weapon appears to be all correct including the stock which is properly cartouche dated 1892 which corresponds correctly with the serial number. What makes this rifle more interesting than unusual are the various markings including a maltese cross on the left side of the receiver, a large "9" on the right side of the butt, and "9/C/20" along the comb of the stock. These markings have been found on other Trapdoor rifles which were identified by Springfield Research Service as having belonged to the 9th New York National Guard. The serial numbers of other rifles are very close to this rifle and a SRS letter would likely confirm the history of this weapon. In addition to the recognized NYNG markings, the rifle carries an "84" on the left side and was marked by a previous user with the name "MOWER" on the underside of the stock. Overall condition is good with general wear. The metal finish has faded to a smooth brown patina which is free of any significant rust or pitting. The stock is sound but does show numerous small dents and dings in addition to a tight crack forward from the heel of the buttplate on the left side. The butt trap cover fits a bit too loosely and will swing open under its own weight. Mechanically, the rifle functions well however the ladder of the rear sight is slight bent which limits travel of the aperture. The bore shows strong rifling with some light corrosion that looks like it would probably clean up and should be quite shootable. The Model 1888 Trapdoor was the very last of the big-bore U.S. Military infantry rifles and was only manufactured for a few short years. For this reason it holds a unique place in a U.S. military collection.Buyer pays $25.00 shipping. This is an antique rifle and as such, no FFL is required for transfer and in most areas it can be shipped directly to the winning bidder. There are exceptions (New Jersey) where an FFL transfer may still be required. Please know your local laws before bidding. supply proof of age. Some areas still require an FFL transfer for antique &
black powder firearms (New Jersey, NYC, etc.) Large capacity magazine restrictions:
New Jersey - 15 round maximum for semi-automatic firearms only.
California - 10 rounds maximum for all magazines.
Maryland - 20 rounds maximum for all magazines (does not apply to .22 tubular magazines)
Massachusetts - 10 rounds maximum for all magazines
Hawaii - 10 round maximum for all handgun magazines.
PAYMENT OPTIONS: Payment must be received within 14 days of auction close or the item will be relisted. Postal Money Orders and
Cashier's Checks ship fastest; Personal and business checks are gladly
accepted but will delay shipping 10 days for clearance (I know the good ones
clear faster, but the bank is sometimes slow in notification of a returned
check).

it can be arranged. I include a signed copy of my FFL with each firearm
shipped. Please note that purchases cannot be “picked up” at my location....all firearms are shipped.

fired but have been given a visual inspection only for auction purposes. It
is a requirement that every used firearm is inspected by a qualified gunsmith
before firing. By bidding, the buyer agrees to hold seller harmless against
damages, injury, or death caused by defective merchandise.
RETURN POLICY: All firearms come with a 3-day (M-F) inspection/return
privilege. Inspection period begins at time of delivery to your dealer…it is
your responsibility to inspect the gun in this time frame. In the case of a
return, buyer pays all shipping so please ask questions BEFORE you bid.
