32 Caliber Rimfire
(?)
Ok, admittedly most of this is guess
work, I did the research, I checked with some knowledgeable friends including
Mark and came up with the following;
Caliber appears to be 32 Rimfire, round
fits perfectly in the chamber, Origin by the Liege proof is British, (yes you
find Belgium proofs on other countrys firearms), there are other proofs
including a nitro which make the age past 1865 but before 1900, the rest
(shown), we could not figure out.
This carbine is very well made, it is a
true "Trap Door" as you can see by the pictures, the hammer spring is as new but
the hammer has a problem locking in the full cock position, I took it apart for
a look and found a simple hammer/trigger connection, 1 pin, 1 screw, 20 minutes
of stone work and it will work like a charm.
The barrel is 22 inches long with a brass
drift front sight and a Winchester type elevator on the rear topped by a
buckhorn, the wood is near perfect with a small chip out of the heel, the metal
is a combination of original blue and patina and has not been messed with. The
buttplate has a gorgeous deer and field scene.
If anyone knows anything more about this
piece, enlighten me, thanks.
I might just take this out back and see
if I'm right about the caliber, if you don't hear from me again, I was probably
wrong................................ We have had some needed input from viewers, it now seems that this carbine is a Flobert (Thank You), I have added a couple of pictures that look like they confirm that to be true, still believe the caliber to be .32 Rimfire. The piece was made in Belgium and upgraded in England.
