If you have a recent issue of the American Rifleman featuring Teddy Roosevelt's model 1886, then this rifle may interest you! A model 1886 deluxe pistol grip rifle made in 1887. See the factory letter and the end of the pictures. Rifle was shipped in 1887 and returned in 1905 for "repair". The tang is stamped "refinished" inside and the 26" octagon barrel has been rebored from .40-82 to .45-70. No indication if this rebore was done at that time. The .40-82 caliber designation is still stamped on the barrel. Button magazine. Perfect bore and action. Folding Beech front sight. Original buckhorn rear sight. Rifle shows use after its refinish and retains approx. 80% blue with carry wear and a little scattered light rust. Traces of case color on the hammer and lever. Receiver has a few faint cleaning scratches. Small area, on the receiver, at the front edge of the loading gate is dinged but it didn't show up well in my picture. Right side of the upper tang was repaired and was not factory done. The checkered wood is beautifully figured walnut with a "piano" finish that looks original. Finish has scratches, light dings, and what I believe is a fine 1" crack near the end of the upper tang. Wood is still very solid. Ebony insert at the bottom of the pistol grip is intact. Rifle feeds, fires, and works exactly as it should and looks great. E-mail me with any questions. No reserve. Satisfaction, with my description, guaranteed.
