German WWII MP-40 Submachine Gun, Excellent!
• German WWII MP-40 Submachine Gun-This is a desirable WWII German MP-40 submachine gun with a spare magazine, 9mm luger caliber, 10 inch round barrel, blue finish, and bakelite stock. It is a nicely restored example of an early production, all matching WWII German MP-40 submachine gun. This is a fully functional weapon as manufactured by the C.G. Haenel company in Suhl, Germany. The Haenel company only started producing the MP-40 SMGs in 1941, consequently, this is a first year production model. The company continued to produce these weapons throughout WWII as one of the mainstay producers of the MP-40 SMGs. The MP-40 was another of the WWII German weapons that was years ahead of the allies in the manufacture of mass-produced weapons. It became the benchmark for SMGs that were produced from WWII through the 1970s, as it employed a combination of stampings, welding, limited machining, and phenolic resin composite material to keep the manufacturing costs low with high volumes of production. As noted, this SMG has all matching numbers and the lower stock/end cap assembly is marked: "MP 40/fxo 41/1341h/cnd". The "cnd" markings is the wartime code for the subcontractor or manufacture of the end cap stamping, the Krupp-National-Registrierkassen, GmbH, Berlin. The receiver tube is the correct wartime version with the smooth sides and the front left area marked "1341h/Eagle 37/WaA44/. The underside of the tube is marked "41/WaA44/cos". The "cos" marking is the wartime code for the Gebruder Merz, Merz-Werke, Frankfurt, Main, who manufactured the receiver tube. The underside of the tube is also marked with a small importer's stamp, to designate who imported the SMG. As noted, this SMG is correctly serial numbered on the front side base, the barrel nut, receiver tube, rear sight, the buttstock/end cap assembly, the pistol grip assembly, the folding buttstock, and the bolt. The telescoping firing pin assembly is an original WWII version that is Waffenamt proofed, but un-numbered. The only notable thing is that the serial number on the bolt assembly, although original to this weapon, has been correctly restamped on the side, and the original number is visible underneath. An all matching serial numbered MP-40 is very rare today, as most were either destroyed after the war, or were so heavily used that most of them have mismatched parts from repairs over the years. It has the correct red/brown phenolic resin grips and lower receiver cover, and it is complete with an original leather sling and three MP-40 magazines. Two of the magazines have wartime markings and proofs on the back side and are marked on the left lower side "M.P.38.U/40", while the other one is unmarked, but definitely of the correct MP-40 configuration. Near mint condition overall with 99% of the professionally reblued finish and clear, sharp markings overall, showing wear only on the edges and high spots overall with some lightly pitted areas under the blue on the tube. The red/brown phenolic resin grips and stock assembly cover are all in excellent condition, with just light wartime use, but no cracks or damage. As noted, the telescoping firing pin/recoil spring assembly is in excellent condition and should give excellent reliable functioning. This weapon is a fully registered Class III SMG with the appropriate ATF transfer stamp that is limited for use as a sales sample only. See photos.
